A Career In Real Estate FAQ
Who exactly is HUNT Real Estate looking for?
Currently, HUNT Real Estate is looking for a specific number of qualified, motivated and realistic individuals to join our sales team. While an extensive background in sales is not necessary, the willingness to learn and be coached definitely is. HUNT Real Estate professionals represent our industry with an admired level of professionalism and care. Success is not just a desire, it is a true experience that happens when you embrace our culture and support.
What does “commission based” mean?
Real estate is a commission based industry. That means you are paid when you sell a house. This concept can be both attractive and intimidating. While it is our goal to get your new business “up and running” and consistent as soon as possible, there are things to consider to avoid unnecessary stress. We have a job to do...together. That job is to introduce and reinforce you as the best resource when it comes to a real estate need. Trust us, we will do that. However, as we work on growing this new business, you will want to consider what resources are in place to get you through the “building” stage.
Can I start on a part time basis?
Many of our future candidates dream of being the next great, full time agent, but just cannot devote those hours in the beginning. Our required business plan is created together to establish a set of mutual expectations and understandings. This includes everything from time commitment, to accountability and goal setting. Some of our most successful agents started on a “part time” basis. It may not be easy, but your commitment to the plan will make the effort worth while.
What are the course requirements?
The required Real Estate Salesperson Qualifying Course is 75 hours and is offered both in class and online. This course will teach you everything that New York State requires you know about the law, ethics and proper practices. HUNT Real Estate has an exclusive accountability plan that will keep you focused and engaged throughout this necessary initial process. We will also help you prepare for the state exam, which is the final step before you are ready to become licensed.
What does it cost?
The first investment will be made when you register for the licensing course. Depending on which avenue you choose, the cost will be anywhere between $100 and $500. The state exam is $15 and upon passing, the cost to get your license from the Department of State is $55. There are then initial costs to begin memberships with your local associations and the Multiple Listing Service. You will also be required to carry insurance. To sum it up, someone who is thinking of starting a career in real estate should be prepared for an initial investment of about $2,000 with annual renewals of about $1,600. One or two sales each year will easily cover that amount. There are NO monthly fees at HUNT Real Estate to be a part of our team and you will have unlimited access to the very finest products, tools and support.
What is an Independent Contractor?
An Independent Contractor is different from an employee. You will be setting your own schedule which will allow you to work in family time, vacations and other commitments. You will get out of this business exactly what you put into it, so it is very important to remember that the right amount of time will be required for planning, coaching and pro active activities. HUNT Real Estate will build a business plan with you based on your specific goals.
Will I receive additional training?
Of course! As a HUNT Real Estate Agent, you are part of our team. We do what it takes to make sure our team succeeds. Our core training will teach you everything you need to know to build your business, no matter what kind of learning style you prefer. We also have a mentor program, one-on-one coaching and weekly webinars. Our training is constant, always evolving and the reason our agents stand out in our market.
